2013 Annual Neighbors Night Out - September 8th

Neighbors Night OutBriarcreek's Annual Neighbors Night Out (NNO) was held Sunday, Sept. 8th. We changed it to Sunday this year to see if it was more convenient for neighbors. We had hoped to avoid clashes with fall football games and other Saturday activities. We have lots of young families in the neighborhood and understand that Saturdays are busy with sporting events. We had a great turnout with more than 100 in attendance.

It was a nice evening and families enjoyed a nice walk, bike ride, or canoe ride to get together at the beautiful Briarcreek bridge in the heart of the neighborhood. We were joined by our local firefighters, which are always a huge hit with the kids and kids-at-heart who love the big firetrucks; Wiley Post principal, Joel Ilgen, who gave a report and answered questions about Wiley Post Elementray; Councilman Shadid and other elected officials spoke with the crowd; and our local police representative, MSgt Bob Skalla, spoke about safety and crime prevention tips. It was an informative and fun-filled evening. Our annual side-walk chalk art contest was again a highlight of the evening. Most families went home with door prizes and enjoyed plenty of great food.

This and a great opportunity to get to know neighbors better and those who protect and serve our neighborhood. So, mark you calendars to join us for this year's NNO event, September 7, 2014!

Thousands of OKC-Metro Area citizens, at over 60 Neighborhood Events, celebrate Neighbors Night Out. In other states, this event is held in August and known as "National Night Out" however, for the fifth straight year, Oklahoma City has moved our neighborhood celebrations to September in hopes of more temperate weather.

2012 Neighbor's Night Out - a perfect evening!

Neighbors Night Out

The 2012 Briarcreek Annual Neighbors Night Out celebration was held on Saturday, September 8th at 6:30 pm, at the beautiful bridge in the heart of our neighborhood. Lots of Briarcreek neighbors enjoyed the greatly anticipated break in the heat. Everyone enjoyed pizza, fresh fruit, fun activities and prizes - all in the surroundings of our beautiful lakes. It was an evening of new and renewed friendships and a great opportunity to talk with representatives from the Police Department, OG&E, and firefighters. The kids were thrilled to have THREE firetrucks and their crew joining our event.

We were honored to have the Principals and PTA President from Wiley Post elementary. Briarcreek is partnering with Wiley Post to provide mentors and volunteers. (If you are interested in being a part of this great opportunity to help our local schools, send us an email so we can add you to our volunteer list).

The girls in attendance were all flashing some amazing nails done by Welcoming Committee Chair, Kelli Moore,at the Fancy Nails station. Young faces were adorned with lizards, basketballs, butterflies, etc. Thanks to the amazing facepainting done by neighbor, Rebecca Savely, at the Face Painting station.

We also had a sidewalk chalk art contest, so if you missed this wonderful event. You can walk to the bridge and enjoy the beautiful artwork on the bridge and on the edges done by budding, resident artists. Everyone in attendance voted for their favorite artwork with prizes going to the winner.

If you missed this year's event, be sure to watch the website's activities so you can mark your calendar for next year!

**Many thanks to Crest Foods for providing the tasty fruit selections and to All American Pizza for donating the pizza.**

Neighbor's Night Out

Neighbors Night Out

Briarcreek neighbors gathered last Saturday night for Neighbors Night Out - an evening of fun, food and friends! Neighbors Night Out provides an opportunity for neighbors to get to know each other, enjoy a sandwich or two and have a nice evening in the neighborhood. National Night Out and Neighbors Night Out events are held nationwide to help neighborhoods unite to fight crime, strengthen neighborhood spirit as well as strengthen fire and police partnerships in our community.

"This is an annual event in Briarcreek and the number of neighbors who come out for the fun increases each year," said Dan Orza, BNA president. This year's event featured face painting, music, getting a tour of the firetruck and the beautiful sidewalk chalk art. Neighbors enjoyed the cool event and the beautiful lake location while they munched on chicken salad sandwiches, chips, watermelon and brownies. We even had a visit from our neighborhood Swan who was happily fed Cheerios by the neighborhood children. Of course a visit from our local fire department is always a crowd pleaser. You can see from the slide show that the big rig is a favorite with young and old!

Roy and Georgia Cooper were just one of 80 or so attendees at the event Saturday night. "It was a really nice having it setup at the bridge overlooking the lakes," Roy said. "The weather was perfect. The clouds blocked the sun, a gentle breeze blew over the lakes and the temperatures stayed nice and cool throughout the evening."

Many of the younger attendees had such a great time they suggested we have a neighborhood Halloween party. Maybe so??....
